Art Programme in Hawston with Trim Tab - Rupert Foundation
At Hawston Primary, from Grade 1 to 7, all aspects of visual art are covered. Learners are introduced to the world of art and craft, where they are taught the fundamental elements of art. We also encourage them to share their work by participating in competitions and eisteddfods.
Hawston Secondary Grade 8-12. Our classes cover Art and Design principles, and provide an introduction to all mediums. Classes focus on all practical aspects of art and design, as well as marketing and entrepreneurial skills.
Tea4Kidz Therapy Thursday
In each class, we begin by having tea and a rusk. We sit around the table to discuss the day, the week, things we’re looking forward to, and share our news. This time allows us to connect and is valuable for building group bonds and social skills. Each week, every child is assigned a specific responsibility, such as making tea, handing out food, setting the table with art materials, or cleaning up. They take pride in their contributions to the group.
After our catch-up, we create art in a non-judgemental space. Some projects focus on imagination-themed or abstract art, while others are more craft-based and aimed at developing fine motor skills. We also worked together as a team to paint a mural for Child Protection Week - and recently enjoyed an exhilarating drumming session with Bevil from Drumba.
The Laager Rooibos, Tea4Kidz - Western Cape Design Competition
For the third consecutive year, Laager Tea launched its competition for Grade 10 Design students across the Western Cape in 2024. The competition challenges participants to develop innovative and creative ideas to promote Laager Rooibos Tea and reach a wider audience. The competition is run by Laager Rooibos in partnership with The Creative Space, TDL Marketing, and the Western Cape Education Department. The next exhibition and judging will take place in November 2025 in Hermanus. Currently, students are working on their designs.
